Injected into the border of the lips, the Russian lip filler technique enhances the cupid’s bow area without augmenting or changing the shape of the lips. This creates a more dramatic shape for your lips quickly and effectively, with results lasting up to 9 months.
Russian Lip filler uses the same Dermal Fillers used for regular lip enhancement and augmentation, the only difference is how it is administered.
A Russian Lip is a style of lip filling which adds a dramatic and intense lift to the lips and the Cupid’s Bow. Injected into the vermillion border of the lips, this lip filler technique focuses on the border of the lips to create an impactful pout without adding too much volume to the profile of the lips.

The main difference between the two techniques is the technique in which the filler is administered. Regular lip filler is injected into various areas of the lips to build the desired shape and symmetry, resulting in a more youthful, luxurious pout whilst remaining natural-looking. Russian Lip filler on the other hand focuses on the outer edge of the lip line working inwards to build a more dramatic pout which enhances the cupid’s bow.

You can definitely receive a Russian lip technique treatment if you have previously had lip fillers. During your consultation, your lips will be assessed, and you may need a hyalase treatment to dissolve any existing fillers before the new ones are applied. This process allows for the safe and effective removal of the old filler, after which your fresh Russian Lip injections can be administered. Be sure to discuss the option of dissolving lip fillers with your practitioner if you are considering this treatment.
• During your consultation for the treatment, we carefully assess the area around your lips to make sure we use the correct amount of filler for the desired results. We also discuss the procedure in full, answering any questions or concerns you have about the treatment.
• During the procedure, to make sure it is as comfortable as possible, we apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area. Dermal fillers also contain an anaesthetic, to further minimise the chance of pain or discomfort.
Once the area is numb, we begin the procedure, starting with injections along the vermillion border of the lip-lines.
There will be some improvement immediately after treatment, but you should see the final results after about 2 weeks.
This is the time it takes for the hyaluronic acid in the filler to work with the skin tissue.
Your entire appointment could last up to an hour, including consultation and treatment time. The procedure can take around 30 – 45 minutes, with extra time prior potentially needed for the numbing cream to take effect.
Patients can have their Russian Lip treatment results last from 12 – 18 months, but you may wish to top up every 6 – 9 months to maintain results.
The Russian Lip filler technique uses multiple injection points, which can cause more discomfort and swelling. Therefore, it may take a little longer to see the final results, but most people notice them after two weeks from treatment.
You can help to minimise your downtime after your treatment by avoiding alcohol the night before your treatment, using arnica tablets a week prior and a week after your treatment, using an ice pack before and after your treatment and avoiding hot baths, saunas and steam rooms for around 48 hours after your treatment.
