Dermal filler treatment

Dermal fillers can be used in many parts of the face to help soften lines, add volume and restore hydration. Areas that can be treated include:

Nasolabial folds – the lines that go from the nose to the corner of the mouth

Marionette lines – the lines from the corner of the mouth to the jawline

Perioral lines – fine lines along the lip lines, often referred to as ‘smokers’ lines

Frown lines – often treated with wrinkle-relaxing treatments such as Botox, but stubborn frown lines can improve with a soft dermal filler

Cheeks – replenishing volume loss caused by reduced collagen production

Chin – redefining or correcting unevenness

Jaw lines – redefining the contours of the jaw area

Lips – enhancing volume and definition

Eye area / tear trough – reducing hollows and eye bags

Nose reshaping – non-surgical rhinoplasty (see Frequently asked questions below).

Temporal Hollows – Replenishing volume loss caused by reduction in collagen production.

Before the treatment, we start your appointment with a consultation to assess your areas of concern. We look at the symmetry of the face and natural contours. We pick out the areas where natural enhancement is needed.

Our nurse will then prepare the area and carry out the injections. We may use a numbing cream if necessary, but the needle is very fine and most people find it mostly painless. Treatment takes up to about 30 minutes.

When will I see the results?

Improvements are seen immediately. However, results will continue to improve over 2 weeks as the hyaluronic acid starts to bind moisture and plumps out skin folds. Depending on product choice, the treatment can last 6-18 months.

Risks, side effects and allergic reactions

At KL Cosmetic Clinics in Doncaster, we only use products that are licensed and have been researched for many years. The fillers are all biodegradable products, which means that they are very low risk.

They do not have long-term side effects associated with other permanent fillers. Side effects are rare but the general risks can include bruising, tenderness, or swelling. We will explain in detail any possible risks or side effects, before the treatment.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal filler injections are hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring, gel-like substance within the skin. As we age, we gradually lose the hyaluronic acid in our skin and can begin to develop fine lines and volume loss.

Dermal fillers mimic the effects of hyaluronic acid, and when injected into the skin, can help smooth lines, restore volume and enhance contours of the face.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Longevity of Dermal Fillers can vary from patient to patient depending on different factors such as natural metabolism, if you partake in regular strenuous exercise and sun exposure to name a few.

Manufacturer guidelines advise dermal filler procedures on average last between 6 and 12 months+.

How long does the procedure take?

Depending on the number of areas to be treated, a dermal filler procedure can take around 50 – 60 minutes. This time includes an in-depth consultation prior to treatment, numbing time, the process of injecting and aftercare.

Is there any post treatment after care?

After a dermal filler procedure, you should avoid active cosmeceutical products (AHAs, retinols, vitamin C) and oil-based makeup for 24 hours, as well a heat-inducing activities such as strenuous exercise, saunas, and hot showers.

Avoid touching your face and applying pressure on the treated area for 48 hours (sleep on your back if possible). Do not undergo any facials, waxing, chemical peels, skin needling, microdermabrasion, IPL, or laser treatment for 2 weeks after your procedure.
