Hyperhidrosis Treatment in Doncaster

Hyperhidrosis treatment

Hyperhidrosis is the medical name for excessive sweating.

It’s a condition that may affect as many as three per cent of people, men and women, and can be embarrassing and debilitating and can have a serious impact not just on self-confidence but daily life, job opportunities and relationships.

The most common areas for hyperhidrosis are the armpits, face, palms of the hands and soles of the feet. Excessive sweating can, though, occur in other parts of the body.

Hyperhidrosis is caused by over-activity in the sweat glands. These glands are triggered by the body’s normal response for regulating temperature – in a warm environment or after exercise, for example..

However, other factors may also be triggers, such as anxiety, physical or emotional stress, alcohol and hot or spicy food.

You may be able to avoid some of these factors. But if excessive sweating is affecting your life and your confidence, please talk to us here at KL Advanced Medical Cosmetics.

We can you offer a simple, effective treatment for hyperhidrosis, to help keep the condition under control.

Hyperhidrosis treatment at KL Cosmetic Clinics Doncaster

The treatment we offer for hyperhidrosis is using injections of Botulinum Toxin Type A (commonly known as Botox – also used in wrinkle-relaxing treatments).

Botox™ has been used to treat excessive sweating for many years. The injections temporarily inhibit the over-active sweat glands. This helps to stop the sweating completely, in some cases, or at the very least to significantly reduce it.

As with other injection treatments it may feel a little uncomfortable, but most of our clients find it relatively pain-free. We will explain the procedure to you in more detail, during your consultation for the treatment.

To maintain the results, we recommend you have the treatment once every 4 to 6 months.

Indications (what is it for)?

Hyperhidrosis treatment at KL Cosmetic Clinics uses injections botulinum toxin type A, commonly known as Botox™.

We also use Botox injections for our wrinkle-relaxing treatments.

For treating hyperhidrosis, the injections block the action of the part of the nervous system that supplies the sweat-producing glands.

The treatment is not a permanent cure for excessive sweating. The nervous system regenerates, and every few months you will need further injections to maintain results.

Frequently asked questions

What is hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating that has a significant and debilitating affect on your everyday life.

It is called ‘primary hyperhidrosis’ if it is a condition in itself, and not a side-effect of another medical condition.

This type usually occurs in the areas on the body where a particular type of sweat gland (the eccrine gland) is most concentrated. These areas are the palms, soles of the feet and armpits.

If the condition is caused by another medical condition, it is known as ‘secondary hyperhidrosis’. This type of hyperhidrosis may be a slightly more common, and often occurs on larger areas of the body.

What happens during hyperhidrosis treatment?

Before starting the procedure, we usually apply an anaesthetic cream to the treatment area.

In the procedure, we inject tiny amounts of the Botox at different points in the treatment area, using a very fine needle.

The treatment session usually takes about 30 minutes.

Does the treatment hurt?

As with any injection treatment, you may feel some slight discomfort during the procedure.

However, we apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area, to minimise any pain during or after treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Response to the treatment can vary between patients, but you should notice an improvement within a few days.

How long does the treatment last?

For hyperhidrosis, the effect of the Botox injections usually lasts between 4 and 6 months.
